Chapter 3 Fetch Her Luggage
The next day, Cecilia headed to Justin''s place to grab her stuff. She didn''t bother going inside—just called the house staff and had them bring everything out to the driveway.
Just as she hung up, a car pulled in. It stopped right in front of her, and Justin stepped out looking seriously ticked off. He shot her this impatient look, like she was wasting his time. She''d spent one night away from home, and clearly he couldn''t care less. Now here she was, crawling back because her little stunt had backfired.
"Get in. Time to cut the crap," he ordered, all high and mighty.
Cecilia blinked, then realized what he was getting at. He actually thought she couldn''t let go of him.
She almost laughed. "Justin, your memory''s pretty shot. We literally got divorced yesterday."
His face darkened. "Cecilia Quinn! You really want to push me?"
Before she could answer, there was this loud bang. She looked up to see this massive banner stretched across the entrance: "CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR DIVORCE, CECILIA!" Below it were a bunch of signs with stuff like "HAPPY DIVORCE!" written all over them.
Cecilia''s jaw dropped. Everything was happening so fast she couldn''t even process it.
Before she could wrap her head around what was going on, someone shoved a bouquet of roses in her face.
"Cecilia, do I have a shot now?"
She looked up to find this guy who could''ve stepped off a magazine cover. Tall, perfectly built, and ridiculously good-looking.
Before she could even respond, he dropped to one knee. "I''m not gonna make a bunch of empty promises, but I swear you''ll have my heart till the day I die. I''ll never leave you hanging."
Justin was fuming. Was this guy taking a shot at him for abandoning Cecilia? Please. She had it coming, and she had no right to complain about it.
Cecilia looked stunned, but Justin still figured this was all part of her scheme. He stormed toward the house.
"Mrs. Quinn!" the butler called after him.
Just like he''d expected—Cecilia was trailing behind him. He slowed down, then stopped, thinking he should warn her to quit playing these stupid games. They just made him sick.
So he turned around, ready to lay into her. "Listen—"
"Thanks." Cecilia didn''t even pause. She walked right past him to grab a small bag from one of the staff standing behind the butler.
Then she turned to the butler. "Please call me Ms. Green from now on. And hey, I''m just taking this bag. Whatever''s left in my room upstairs? Do whatever you want with it."
She paused, then added, "Oh, and tell Justin I won''t be bothering him anymore since we''re divorced now. I mailed him something—consider it a wedding gift for his next marriage."
Right on cue, a mail carrier showed up and handed Justin an envelope. He opened it to find the credit card he''d given Cecilia when they got married.
With everyone watching, he swallowed his rage and signed for the delivery, his face like stone.
Cecilia watched the whole thing quietly. Once she was sure he''d signed, she turned and walked away.
She headed out of the yard, calling to the model guy who was still standing there like a statue. "Let''s go."
The guy opened the car door for her. "Sure thing."
They both got in.
"You''re completely insane, just like Sabina," Cecilia snapped at him once they were driving. The guy had put on this whole elaborate show, and she knew for sure this had Sabina written all over it.
He rubbed his chin sheepishly. "Sabina just wanted to surprise you."
More like give her a heart attack.
**At Sabina''s Place**
After hearing about everything that went down, Sabina was grinning like crazy.
"Way to go, Cecilia! That ''wedding gift for his next marriage'' line was pure genius. He must''ve been absolutely livid. Perfect!"
She jumped up from the couch and snapped her fingers. "Okay, time for phase two. That model guy was just a rookie—not nearly impressive enough. Let''s find someone even hotter. We can''t let up now. We''re gonna destroy that jerk."
"Stop it." Cecilia grabbed Sabina''s arm. "I gave him that card because I didn''t want to owe him anything. If you keep pulling these crazy stunts, he''s gonna think I''m still hung up on him. I just want the next three months to go smoothly until our divorce is finalized."
Sabina sighed. "Fine, he gets a pass for now."
"Oh, isn''t it time to pick up Nico?" she suddenly remembered.
The name was like magic—Cecilia''s whole face lit up with the brightest, most genuine smile.
She nodded, her eyes sparkling. "Yeah."
At four that afternoon, Cecilia and Sabina waited outside Starberry Kindergarten. Soon, a little girl in a pink dress came walking out with a tiny backpack. Her big, bright eyes made her stand out from all the other kids.
